SriBuO Online Album Review - Mzbel - Saucy Girl

Buy from iTunes Buy CD from Amazon

Mzbel is no longer 16 years ... now the new Saucy Girl and she is not afraid to say it loud. SriBuO brings you "Saucy Girl", Mzbel's sophomore album which is now available on iTunes and other online stores for download.

Overall, this album is a huge departure from her first. It explores more foreign genres including Pop, Retro, Reggaeton, Electronic, Funk etc. These are most pronounced in the first few tracks from the album; namely - Saucy Girl, Run Away, You Don't Turn Me On, Baby Turn Me On and Material Girl. Majority of her lyrics (both rap and song) are also in English this time around.

As always, Mzbel is daring and seductive and it shows throughout the album. "Play me that naughty song and take me tonight ...", "Touch it, hold it, grab it, feel it, drop it, kick it, squeeze it ..." are a few of the suggestive lyrics that pervade the album.

Even though most of the tracks are geared towards an international audience, the Saucy Girl still stays true to her Ghanaian roots and has some Kpanlogo and other more Ghanaian sounding tracks where she raps and sings in Twi. Odo Kiss Me, San Bra (also featured on her first album) and Twe Ma Me are a few of such tracks.

If you are looking for something indigenous then you will probably want to go for her old album. If on the other hand you are ready to explore what happens when music genres, themes and lyrics from around the world are blended into a head-bobbing mix of danceable tracks, then this is definitely the album for you.
